Frequently asked questions
Find help with Footprint, from saving a place to sharing a collection. Search for a question or browse a topic.
What is Footprint?
Footprint helps you collect places and share what you liked about them. Build a personal guide for a city, an area, or a country.
What is the difference between a Footprint and a spot?
A Footprint is a collection of places. A spot is one place in that collection, such as a cafe, a shop, or somewhere to stay.
Can I explore without an account?
Yes. You can browse public Footprints and spots without signing in. Sign in to save places, follow people, or add your own content.
Can I use Footprint on my phone?
Yes. Open Footprint in your phone's browser. You can explore, save places, and manage your collections without installing an app.
Can I book a place through Footprint?
Footprint is a place guide, not a booking service. A spot may include an external link. Check prices, availability, and booking terms with the venue.
How do I create a Footprint?
Sign in and select Create a footprint. Add a title, choose a location, and set who can see it. Then add your spots.
Should I choose a city, an area, or a specific business?
Choose a country, city, or area for the collection. Add individual businesses as spots. Use a city for places spread across several neighborhoods.
Can I make a guide for a place I am not currently visiting?
Yes. Search for the destination you want. Your current location helps with suggestions, but you can choose another city or country.
How do I edit my Footprint?
Open your Footprint and select Edit. You can update its details and manage its spots. Sign in with the account that owns the collection.
What is the cover photo for?
The cover introduces your collection on its page and cards. Choose a clear photo you have permission to use. Preview the crop before saving.
How do I add a spot?
Open a Footprint you can contribute to and select Add spot. Choose a search result, then add your notes and useful details.
Why does a place show as outside my Footprint's location?
Spot locations are checked against the collection's location. Check the selected branch and map position. A city-wide collection may suit a wider set of places.
Where can I find a spot I saved as a draft?
Open the Footprint's edit page to find its spot drafts. Choose a draft to continue editing. A draft is not a published spot.
Can I add photos and links to a spot?
Yes. Use the spot editor to add photos and relevant links. Use your own photos or images you have permission to share.
What do the cost symbols mean?
One to four currency symbols show a relative cost level, from lower to higher cost. They are not a price quote. Check current prices with the venue.
What do Public, Anyone with link, and Private mean?
Public collections can be discovered. Anyone with link collections require the share link. Private collections limit access to the owner and authorized collaborators.
Does hiding my profile make my Footprints private?
No. Profile discoverability and collection privacy are separate settings. Check the visibility of each Footprint before sharing personal information.
Can my Footprints appear in Google or AI search answers?
Public content may be eligible for search. Private content, link-only collections, and drafts are excluded from our sitemaps. Search engines decide what to index or cite.
Why can an old title or page still appear in search?
Search engines may keep an earlier version until they crawl the page again. A changed title or privacy setting does not update every search result immediately.
Where do my saved places go?
Use the bookmark button on a Footprint or spot. Open Saved to return to your saved content. Sign in with the same account.
Is a reaction the same as saving a place?
No. A reaction shares how a place or collection makes you feel. A bookmark adds it to Saved so you can find it later.
How do I follow someone?
Open the person's public profile or a collection they created and select Follow. You cannot follow your own account.
Can I edit someone else's collection?
Saving or following a collection does not grant editing access. Editing and contributions depend on ownership and collaborator permissions.
What are profile badges and milestones?
Badges and milestones recognize activity in Footprint. A badge does not verify professional expertise or guarantee that a place is suitable for your trip.
How do I change my name or profile photo?
Open Edit profile from the account menu. Update your details or photo, then save. Check that the change appears on your profile.
Do I have to share my current location?
No. Location permission helps suggest nearby places. You can decline permission and search for a destination yourself.
Why am I seeing suggestions from another city?
Check the selected destination and your browser's location permission. Search with the area and city name when several places have similar names.
What should I do if a photo will not upload?
Check your connection and follow the file requirements shown by the upload control. Try again with a smaller image. Keep your original photo.
How do I report an inaccurate or inappropriate spot?
Use the report control on the spot. Explain the problem so it can be reviewed. For an immediate safety risk, contact local emergency services.
